somerset pillboxes

At Weycroft, to the north of the mill buildings and facing north-west (315 deg.), lies this Type 24 pillbox.

[Map ref. ST 30901 00093]

Trees grow up against the front of the structure, which limits photography.  The reinforced concrete walls had board shuttering, inside and out, the roof interior had corrugated iron shuttering.

The structure has standard Bren Gun embrasures in common with other 'thick-walled' Type 24's.  The view above is through the front embrasure, looking out across the River Axe toward the A358 road beyond.  A pair of Vickers MMG emplacements lie up on the hill to the east of this structure.

The rear of the structure.
