Guarding the road into the old Royal Air Force base is this Type 22, board shuttered, pillbox.  All loopholes and the entrance have been sealed.

The above structure is one of a number of Type 27, brick shuttered, pillboxes that once guarded the base.

Unlike the other seven walls of the structure, the rear wall does not have an embrasure.  A central well in the structure held an anti-aircraft position with a mounting for a LMG.  The entrance was once protected by a porch which has since collapsed or has been knocked down.
