The positions of most of the existing Stop Line structures are recorded on the map, many other structures have been destroyed over the years or are hidden.  Positions are best viewed in 'Satellite' mode where you can zoom in and see the structures and their surroundings.  The 'tagged' positions of structures hidden in woods or undergrowth are approximate.

Work on the General Headquarters (GHQ) Stop Line - Green, commenced in June 1940.  This continuous defensive obstacle was planned to make use of rivers and railway tracks and included anti-tank ditches, Type 24 shell proofed pillboxes, Type 26 pillboxes, infantry trenches, etc. and ran eastward from Highbridge, Somerset, in a great arc running northeast and then northwest to Upper Framilode, Gloucestershire.  The purpose of the Line was to defend Bristol from attack by enemy armoured vehicles approaching from the south or east.  Over the years various pillboxes along the Line have been demolished while others have become overgrown.  The 'tagged' positions of structures hidden in woods or undergrowth are approximate.  Positions are best viewed in 'Satellite' mode.
