Just to the west of Highbridge railway station lies this brick shuttered Type 24 pillbox variant.  There is only one loophole at the rear of the structure and the entrance is guarded by a porch.

[Map ref. ST 32166 46992]

Facing south-east (157 deg.) toward the railway and the River Brue, the structure is mostly covered with ivy.

The structure was part of GHQ Stop Line Green.  This continuous defensive obstacle ran eastward from Highbridge, Somerset, in a great arc running northeast and then northwest to Upper Framilode, Gloucestershire.  The purpose of the Line was to defend Bristol from attack by enemy armoured vehicles approaching from the south or east.
