| At the western end
of the sea-front you will find this beach defence structure, facing eastward
(099 deg.). This is the eastern wall with it's now blocked
embrasure. The defensive structure may have been built inside an existing
building with a thick concrete roof added.
[Map ref. SY 06454 81808] |

| On this, seaward, side of the
structure there does not appear to have been any embrasure/s and the
landward side faces into an earthen bank. |

| The entrance is in the
west-facing wall. Inside the metal gate, the inner door is locked. |

| The structure's only embrasure
(I could find no evidence of any more) was built not into the seaward wall,
as might be expected, but into the east wall. The embrasure's inner opening
is narrow which would rule out the operation of an anti-tank gun but a
Vickers machine gun firing enfilade, eastward, along the beach would have
been very effective against enemy troops as they disembarked from landing
craft. |

| The cluttered view today from
the embrasure, looking eastward along the beach. In 1940 this beach
would have been cleared of anything that might have obstructed the gunner's
view. |
