This overgrown Type 24 pillbox guards the
nearby canal bridge at Charlton.

The rear of the box with
concrete steps leading up to the now sealed entrance. The rear
loopholes are smaller than the standard Type 24 size.
Underneath the east
side of Charlton bridge, four sealed chambers are still visible - in WWII
these would have contained demolition charges. Two of the sealed chambers
are shown in the photo above.
Another Type 24, this one
situated to the south of Charlton bridge just before the old canal engine
house.
