This is a Type 24
'thick-walled' pillbox, just about all of the Type 24 boxes on the
Taunton Stop Line are of this standard. The structures were
shell-proofed by increasing the thickness of the walls to 3.5 foot.
Standard Bren gun embrasures were built into the 5 front and side walls.

| As you can see, the box
really stands out as there is no cover on the east bank at this stage of
the canal. It would have needed some sort of disguise back in 1940, to
break up it's outline. The main Paddington to Penzance railway line
runs along just behind it so maybe it was camouflaged as a tracklayer's
or ganger's hut. |

| Farther south, this box is
shown because, although there isn't much to see apart from the front
loophole, the intention is to include all the defensive structures that I can
find along the Taunton Stop Line.
